In second grade, we explore life cycles. We also examine the characteristics shared between parents and their offspring. This week, we examined the seeds that we compared to being like babies. The seeds will grow into adults or full grown plants. The students have predicted what the four seeds will grow to be. We'll have to observe and care for our seeds for a few weeks before we'll find out!
Summer weeds had grown over the school compost bin as well. These three helpers worked with me to clean our compost bins of the weeds. We will begin to add more leaves, then fruit and vegetable scraps, throughout the year. The scraps and leaves decompose to make terrific soil for our spring garden bed!
Summer weeds had taken over our class garden bed. Many hands helped to clean the garden bed to prepare it for planting. It is a wonderful experience for the students to plant, care for the garden, and then harvest the food. Smiles can be seen around the room when we wash and prepare the food to eat that we grew ourselves in our garden bed. What a wonderful and healthy way to learn!
On Thursday, Cameron's mom and baby brother came to school. Ronnie's mom came to help too. They were busy binding our new Little Readers homework books and projects. We greatly appreciate their help and are excited about the projects!
